@punkin that's the SPP spiral prismatic packing as its called and its at about 0.2mm - 0.3mm. I made some and hated it. Got flattened too easily. In any case abandoned it at an early stage and went for something with more body.
I made a tall column consisting of 1m sections of scrubbers and it worked a treat. If the stuff you've made @richard works out cheaper than pot scrubbers of be keen to look at it.
Pot scrubbers are a shite tonne cheaper than structured column packing typically used by the pharmaceutical industry.
Am of the opinion that these helical coils will nock the shits out of scrubbers. Scrubbers have very little mass by comparison so you ultimately will end up with a more stable column. Also what's nice is that you can hot caustic clean to your hearts content.
Cost wise .... not so sure but a hell of a lot easier to work with especially with the packing being more structured.
Ultimately I am chasing a design of +50 LPH stripping and +21 LPH azeo.
I do like the idea that you can relatively easily make the prismatics and the helicals but I'd need to look at a better way of producing them en-masse. Like you I'd need cubic metres of the stuff.

Reading back through that thread i notice one of my many foot in the mouth prophecies... But really, who knew it would get this big back in 2011?
OMG @Smaug....once a long and very stupid time ago I stored lots of expensive product in the steel drums the ethanol arrived...frack me, bad bad, BAD idea.
Great learning opportunity for me through, a tad expensive a lesson if you ask me.
@richard I'd be looking for at least 3 cubic metres of the stuff! Can you calculate how many I'd need and what that might cost?
I have a few 6m x ~13" columns to build at my new site.

Liquid hold up in the packing could be a negative as much as a positive.

If anyone has a good solution for a 10" x 20' packed column, let me know.
I have just produced 14,000 pieces for a NW125 (5") column for a depth of 1.2m

That's got to have seriously short shelf life on a tin container.... Not to mention taste pick ups

I will check this out on Wednesday when I test fill my column and look for exact numbers, this based on ID 125mm. From here scale it up.

Not so quiet. I can see all the way to Daytona from here. A whole bunch of guys turning left at 200mph there right now...
