A couple of barrel-aged gins in there. The San Miguel one from the Phillippines tastes nasty. It was included in the tasting because it represents the gin style drunk in the Philippines (watered down and sweetened) and is the highest selling gin in the world. (go figure)
This is definitely not the type of rum to find in fruity tropical cocktails. More like the type to have with perhaps coffee or one of those hot buttered style rum drinks.
Interestingly, the finish is not at all evident when nosing. It is nearly hidden until you swallow and then just hangs on.
So many rums are kinda one dimensional. Pretty good rums seem often times two dimensional. This is three dimensional.
It's third or fourth in my Gin collection after tasting last night.
@HurdleCreek s Evolution is still the frontrunner with Tanqueray 10 coming in second. If you can get your hands on a bottle from the distillery i'd be giving them a call @EZiTasting .

Thanks @punkin! The webshop plugin is ready to roll just as soon as we sort out shipping with AusPost! Been a bit under the pump recently making more gin, marketing and getting the product out to the trade here in the NE and in Melbourne.
@EZiTasting Arhie Rose gin is one of my faves. Its made on a wheat GNS base & we we make our own spirit from barley. Both have a strong grain-based foundation & go well in a martini.

Sampled the Winter Park Dog Island Rum yestarday. What a suprise finish. Did not expect that at all! Great long finish.
They aged in a beer barrel and the wonderful sort of Belgian waffle finish lasts a long time.

I love nosing finish. Especially where they're hidden. When she hangs on the swallow it's just magic.
Rums good too.
Ha!
Thats my favorite thing when there is a defined beginning/middle/end. Great for whiskey, but a delightful surprise with rum.
We are all in for a treat if these beer barrel aged spirits develop like this Dog Island Rum has.
