I know plate chiller won't work with grain-in mashes and immersion coil isn't really an option. What are you guys recommending equipment to cool to pitch temp a 26 gallon in-grain batch? not on the expensive side.

I'm not an expert but you would size your piping to your pump. Washing machine pump, maceration pump etc will all handle grain in and hot.

if you can find a salvage guy that scraps heat exchanger coils from large commercial rooftop chillers, they make really big ones of those with 7/8"-1" inner tubes, they can weigh like 100lbs, but you can really flow through them!
I love the coil assy. Never seen it done with an outer plastic tube before. So much easier to manufacture.
on the bottom shelf are a 1/2 ton and 2 ton chiller... I paid $100 new for the 1/2-ton, sold by hearts homebrew supply, I think I gave $50 to my scrapyard friend for the used 2-ton for the copper scrap value..

This is easier to clean than the coil ones. Now my questioning is how on earth I'm going to move thick mashes (corn, rye, etc.) to the fermenters. I don't want to spend thousands on a lobe pump or a positive displacement pump. Is the washing machine pump a serious option for thick mashes? From this thread:

I would have recommended one of those for you excepting you said you wanted it ...inexpensive... both will work.
Last time i priced a generic replacement pump for a washing machine it was $20. Try it and see. Worse that happens is that you loose a mash.
Really, 120l is only half a dozen bucket fulls if doing by hand.

Doing it by hand from the mash tun to the fermenter works, but if I want to cool it using the countertop wort chiller, how am I supposed to do it? I just don't see how I can do it...
Instead of using a pump, would pushing the mash with CO2 (1-2 psi) even an option to consider?

Have been looking for an inexpensive variable peristaltic pump. Certainly lends thought to an alternative option. It begs the question.... what sort of life can one expect from the silicone hose tube
Silicone is pretty tough. You can also make the section inside the pump independent with quick connects. Just to be on the safe side, if it ever need to be replaced.
