Lantern style sightglass in 3" dia 6' tall VM

In attempting to learn how to operate this VM better, I have seen it suggested to install a sightglass in the column to visibly see the reflux returning down the column. If a lantern style sightglass, such as this:

is selected, where would it's ideal location be in the column? Middle, near the takeoff arm, bottom?

    I have a sight tower directly underneath the reflux condenser, above the packed column. If you are trying to see the reflux this seems to be the place to go, if you are trying to see the activity within the packing I would guess that the middle to upper part of the column would be best. Just my 2c
