Have any of you found a good replacement for the digital thermometer that comes with the SD thermo tee? I have seen a # of them with a 4mm probe but don't want to waste money on junk. Any guidance greatly appreciated.

@nwvapors Check these out they work good. I run them...

Do they have an on off switch Pa?

No I ran them off of a 12v power supply so I just unplug the wall wart.....
Thanks BigPa, that looks good but I was hoping to find some thing I wouldn't have to build a separate box for it. I could reconfigure my controller I guess to incorporate that one. I am looking for a basic digital plug it in the hole read the dial type of thing and being able to turn it off would be a huge bonus.
You might look at these. I have been running one of them for about a year.
TM-902C K Type Thermometer Temperature Meter + Probe
There are 2 different ones with the same model number. Be sure and get the one that goes to 750 C, it has a 0.1 resolution. The other one goes to 1200 or 1500C it only has 1 degree resolution.
K type probes are available in a myriad of different sizes and configurations. I haven't googled it, but i'd be very surpriosed if you couldn't find one with a 4mm probe.
Plenty of those style temp gauges around to on ebay etc.

Thanks Punkin I'll see what I can find
Just saw this thanks BigPa
I use PT100 RTD's connected to a PID from Auber Instruments. NB I don't use the PID for distillery control, just temp measurement. I use it for my brewery herms too ;-)
Found this one. I like the fact it has two ports, doesn't come with the probes though. Tons of them on ebay identical with probe option. Anybody have experience with this particular model?
New Digital Scientific Thermometer 2 K-Type Sensor Temperature Degree C F
Yep, i use one the same with a thermowell in my mash tun. Mini has a similar one two. They are calibratable and seem to work really well. If you could get some 4mm probes in K type you would be laughing.

Awesome, thanks Punkin, search over! :D
That was actually the 1st one that I got too, but it was the wrong one. That displays either T1 or T2 or (T1-T2). I moved to the VA8060 model because it displays both channels at the same time.
Sorry forgot to include this:
Digital K / J Type Thermocouple Thermometer 4 Probes
There are other more expensive data loggers too, if that is what you want.
Myles thats a good one.... both temps showing at the same time... great battery life as well...
MINI approved and certified..
I use one of these. Really good. Come with 4 probes.
They do look good, are those probes 3mm? I would need 4mm to fit the "thermo tee" unless I can find a new cap and drill it to accept these probes. Or just wrap the bejeezes out of them with teflon tape and shove it in there.
I tend to use a compression fitting. I discard the compression olive, wrap a "bung" of PTFE tape around the probe and use the compression nut to squash the bung to make a vapour tight seal. You can also build a thermo well.
I've used that trick too, works well. I am trying to find something that will replace the thermometer in the SD "thermotee" on this web page.

Those and a couple plug ends and I am in business, thanks Punkin. Those are the first 4mm probes I've seen that weren't 10 inches long.
Ah I see. Measuring coolant temperature not vapour temperature. With that brass thermowell I suppose you could drill the hole to expand it, and solder into it a small (possibly 1/4") straight compression fitting. Just use the compression fitting to secure the sensor in place inside the thermowell.
Didn't think of that, I ordered the probes Punkin pointed me towards. Thanks guys, once again you have advised me well.
