Hello,
I made a control box for my element.
It is set up for a 30 amp breaker, I have a welder on a 50 amp breaker, instead of adding another breaker, can I use the 50 amp breaker?
I can just unplug welder when I want to cook, then visa versa.
If you will notice my SSR is rated for 380V.

Yeah no problem - but remember the breaker is to protect the wiring, not the device. If you have no breaker or fuse in your controller - just keep that in mind.
Thanks @grim... I thought so, but was not sure. Just looking for someone to blame it on. LOL :))
I would spend a couple bucks on a hx for the SSR
Running mine without fan. Passively cooled and it works nice
what is a HX ?
HX= heat exchanger = heat sink

I have a heat sink installed and a fan, I did not understand the abbreviation.
Have a fan and a heat sink on mine as well, but really wonder if the fan is necessary, doesn't get very warm - so I'm guessing they are pretty efficient.
Someone I know has been running for several years with no fan.

@frodo that hx looks like mine. Passive works fine as long as you have it mounted where there can be plenty of convection
Not trying to be stupid but why a relay vs regulator.
The two are completely different.
@richard, LOL..I have no earthly idea. you probably know more about that relay than i do
@richard, in this case i.e. the DIY controller, a special type of solid state relay is used. The addition of the control potentiometer makes this device able to adjust the duty cycle applied to the element i.e. make you the operator able to control the amount of power applied to the element. in this way, you "regulate" the amount of power the element receives.
Have a look at the waveforms on Thyristor Power Regulator W5 Series and you will see how it works.
It is a relay module. There are circuits inside it.

Here is my diagram as to how it is wired:
@frodo - did you fire it up already?
YES,,, runs like a champ. I need some grease between the ssr and the heat sink.
I have 2 of them I made working, mine and a buddies
only problem i ran into was buying the low cost parts from amazon.
parts are cheap. but take FOREVER getting to you from china.
1st one was a month for the pot. and the 2nd was a month for the ssr
Or you can buy the full kit from StillDragon and have no waiting.

+1
:)) or you can buy the whole thing from StillDragon
not a bad deal, buy their kit and add to it. a amp/ volt meter is a must have and I like a on off switch.
get the kit from StillDragon, and a box from Auber with included heatsink (no fan), and you are up and running both cheap and pretty...
This is that box with the Auber controller, which uses a regular SSR and has time and temp functions as well as a nice 'volume knob' for power.
Volume knob? Does it go to 11?
\m/
my interest is aroused you said time and temp function,
so i assume it has a probe to insert in the vapor stream ? hard wired to the controler?
PT100 or thermocouple. You can put the probe wherever you like it but it's intended for boil control
