I am currently using a cheap Ballington brand SS (made in china) 15 gallon stock pot for my still boiler. This is the second one I bought because the first one cracked and started leaking after 20 months of use. I now have a 15.5 gallon 304 SS beer keg to convert into a boiler. I bought a 8" sanitary ferrule fitting with a cap and clamp to weld in the top of the keg for easy clean out and I'm going to put in a half inch fitting in the side bottom for a ball valve. I'm going to cut a hole in the 8" sanitary cap and weld in a 3" ferrule fitting to attach my 3" diameter rectifier column. I see converted kegs that have the skirt cut off exposing that nice dome top and I want to do the same to my keg conversion. How can I cut off that top skirt without damaging the container and not make a scratched up mess out of it with a saw blade??? I thought of having it cut off with a plasma cutter but that might rupture the container and ruin it and I would like to have a nice smooth dome top.

I used a thin zip cut disk on a angle grinder on took a few minutes, leave a little of the weld them use a flapper disk to take that off.
^^^This.
Angle grinder with thin cutoff wheel. Be careful because it is hard to see the other side of what you are cutting and it is easy to go too far.
this I know.
As above, angle grinder, sanding disc and then lots of polish.

I haven't been on here for a bit because you guys are a bunch of mean old drunks LOL, but here's some photos of the finished 8' x 3' x 1-1/2' ferrule fittings with gaskets welded to a 15 gallon SS beer keg.
:-O :-O
Could be the largest ferrule fittings that I have personally heard of. Massive welding job that must have been.
Nice. Now you only need to slap on a couple of bubble plates to keep up with the drunks

That looks like my first ever still. I did that to a keg and had two big clamps and an insertion rubber sleeve. Unfortunately no photos exist of the setup, all though i still have the now repurposed keg.
