ok, starting a thread for rotovap - rotary vacuum distillation... it makes some awesome distillate with little to no heat involved...
you know you want this:

Has some stains so it won't work for me
Let's cook?
Smaug_n_Punkin could get em from China for less....
Holy smoke!! I had a friend back n the 80's look at solar heated vacuum distillation for fuel, which never worked out. But it didn't look like this!! Do they limit vacuum levels to above the boiling point of the intended product or are they holding the condensed distillate at a very cold temperature to keep it from evaporating?
Here's the cheap version:
1L Rotary Evaporator Rotavap for efficient and gentle removal of solvents @ eBay
Jesse Pinkman lives!
I'm more like I am now than I was before.
Aren't the hash oil guys and medicinal shops buying them all up?
Vacuum distillation is overrated!
Dr. Prof. Gössinger from the Agricultural Institute of Distillation in Klosterneuburg has dedicated his work and and research to vakuum distillation, the results are mixed: it is not, like one might think, that more aromas come through - only a few products can benefit. But well - research is going on.

I love a thread that mentions both hash oil and Jesse Pinkman.
The guys at corsair say that they are great for prototyping a spirit and for small quantities of certain botanicals and such that are altered negatively by heat..
The Rotovap is also making inroads for cooking and special infusions. See Rotary Evaporation in the Kitchen
@CothermanDistilling - Did you end up picking up a Buchi? I just bought a second one, an a sweet R-215. I'm hoping to get my hands on the automatic distillation controller, the main purpose being to be able to run a ton of botanical trials.
not yet, crazy end of year...
OK, I just put a lowball bid on a R-215 w/vacuum controller and some glass, and they took it, I was all set to haggle, now regretting not low-balling lower!!! the adventure begins!!! (and I thought I would have a chance to explain it to the wife before putting a final offer in... oooops!)
Sweet deal man, complete with a very good vac controller.
Get ready for the best cucumber and jalapeño distillate you ever tasted.
Cross fingers, about a thousand things to small into bits in that box.
OK, so unpacked and assembled, it works, it has the nub on the top of the condenser broken off, but that was in pics. it was packed very, very well.. I need a receiving flask and clamp for sure, so may just go to a vertical 'V' glass setup instead of the angle 'A' glass one...
I can rig alternatives for bath and vacuum pump, but want to get official matching ones as soon as possible...
it looks almost brand new , the only issue is little scraping noise for the power lift... I will research that... and where does the glass encased thermocouple for the vapor temp go?
Kemtech America/Synthware for the receiving flasks.
The glass thermocouple requires the newest style V condenser or some of the very fancy distillation or expansion glass setups (very rare).
Thanks for the links, I will get the receiving flask coming...
V glass is only $2644.00 from Buchi, so I ordered 3 as to have a couple spares... NOT !
going to build a rolling cart next week and get my chiller hooked up to it while I wait for a bath to come available.
I thought this was too good to be true... it has no temp port
Lab rotary evaporator glass condenser vertical for Buchi @ Amazon
You can sell the probe for a couple hundred bucks.
I want automatic in my old age... this appears to be the best deal on quality glass, 3951-03 from SigmaAldrich

Damn, you two look like as much of a gadget/controls/cool toy guy as I am. Watching Grim's gin foray with great interest, and I might have to pop over from Long Island to take a look (and sorry I couldn't make the trip this weekend for the whiskey stillin') I'll be trying out my steam injection PLC controls this weekend on another all grain & oat mash. Good times :)
Distilling the individual components of cucumber.
Skin, Flesh, and Seed.
A little closer to being operational... Got the V-700 pump for $400, but it needs a $200 seal and o-ring kit (the o-rings alone are made out of some unobtanium called FFKM (Kalrez, Perfluoroelastomer, etc) that makes o-rings cost 1000x the cost of buna-n...)
Ordered a bath today for $500 on eBay, and also want vertical glass instead of diagonal so I can use the right temp probe..
If you swap glass I'll buy your vapor duct and maybe condenser too.
