Emptying the last half inch of water from boiler after cleaning

edited January 2019 in Usage

Hi - I've got a 100L milkcan boiler. The drain outlet is close to the bottom of the vessel but leaves about 0.5 inch of water at the bottom after draining. I stand the boiler on the floor which means it's not practical to get a bucket or something similar to receive the water (because the bucket would be tipped at such an angle to mean it doesn't have any capacity). I also have to tip the vessel at quite an elevated angle to be rid of the water.

So, I guess I could leave the water and put new wash on top, but in practice, the water might be stood there a little while between distillation runs. I have been looking at bilge pumps, but I'm being told that these won't work on the "last half inch".

What do you guys do please?
