Hey guys, recently bought two thirty litre kegs for cheap ( thirty bucks for the two) with the prospect of long term whisky aging down the side of the house in mind! After an hour with a crow bar and a set of stilsons, I got the ball valves out and was going to try bumble up some kind of way to close them off , when I stumbled upon the fact that a StillDragon 2 inch tri clover clamp and blank fits perfect! I don't know if this is common knowledge and I'm the only one that didn't know or what, but thought I'd share it if anyone didn't know! I had some French oak barrel staves laying about, so I turned up a blank and Roberts your mothers brother! Biggest mash ever two weeks ago- running 350l of apple smoked / toffee barley through this weekend, so the barrel should be filled and locked up with some heavy charcoalled staves inside- I'll let you know how it turns out in 2025

French oak blank
Yes mate we even make a gasket to go from the keg to triclamp cap.

Getting dominoes back out of the kegs can be problematic, some people have solved the issue by drilling holes in each end and threading them one after another onto a piece of thin stainless wire like a domino train.

Ha ha, nice - I should read these forums more shouldn't I
Next time go to a brewery that's doing kegging. They are more than likely to have the tools for removing spears. Worth a beer or two.
There are a few types of spears. I have for info shown the S type. S & D type are very similar.
Just search youtube, there's vids there for easy removal of all the different spears.

The kegs I had, you just needed to snap off the lock ring and out came the spear.
Kinda job where you spend half an hour looking for just the right doohickey to do the job, and then 3 seconds to do it.
