Some years back when I purchased my first Stainless steel fermenter it came with a packet of white powder (no not that white powder) this you mixed with water filled up the fermenter and then added the other parts to the mix and let it soak overnight... it did a terrific job but do think I can remember what is was called and I can't remember how to contact the guy who supplied it... Any idea's of what is was?

Hydrofluoric acid? Maybe it was a neutralizer post welding?
Just taking a stab at it.
Maybe a hydrogen peroxide powder? Did it bubble?
No didn't bubble... I forgot to mention it was a degreaser and not just a cleaner and from memory the name was 3 letters something like BMD ?
Pbw?
Pink Brewery Wash. PBW. Beerbelly are close to you but 1.8kg is $60 plus.
Half the price at this place or you can buy the two major ingredients and make it yourself for next to nothing.
There is often group buys on the beer forums.

Homemade PBW Recipe @HomeBrewTalk
But basically it's 2 parts sodium percarbonate (2Na2CO3.3H2O2) 1 part Sodium Metasilicate, Pentahydrate (Na2SiO3.5H2O)

Thanks for that - did not get any ingredients info in the top link but the second link has lots of info.
you can add up to 10% trisodium phosphate to increase the performance. "Triclenium" (available in bunnings) is 100% TSP ;)
Recipe is then: 60 % sodium percarbonate 30% sodium metasilicate 10% TSP
For those in the states - there are probably equivalents globally.
Oxyclean Free = Sodium Percarbonate 3lb for $7.50 at Target/Walmart
Red Devil TSP/90 - Sodium Metasilicate 1lb for $5.50 at Ace Hardware. (Despite the name, this is no longer actually trisodium phosphate).
4lbs of DIY PBW - $13.00
4lb jar of PBW is $25.00
Thank you.
@crozdog - Cheers!
