I recently purchased 4 of the element guards even though only one so far has been shipped to me. My problem is when I go to assemble it per all the directions my element will not thread in correctly, its as if the threaded portion is backwards. I can hand tighten the element in all the way to the gasket but it would leave all the electrical connections completely exposed. Putting it together the correct way the element will only thread on 1/8th of a turn if that. I have been a union pipe fitter for quite some time now so I know how to thread pipe. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue as I would like to get this up and running for our pilot system for our Brewery. Ill get pictures up a little later.
Thanks

It should easily thread. And the wiring should and does fit.
Waiting for pics

It's a little ambiguous.

probably a burr or something, as a pipefitter, you are probably familiar with stainless steel 'galling', so after checking for burrs and removing any with a scraper or file or flat blade screwdriver or whatever, maybe wrap a single wrap of teflon tape on the threads (not on the gasket, just on the threads for lube/anti-galling) and it will thread in easier with out seizing or galling (anti-seize compound would also work, but you may not have that handy)
Naw,,,,,send it back if there is a problem.

Exactly. And if it's one of mine and it's faulty i'll pay freight both ways.

First picture is it threaded in the correct way hand tight 1/8th a turn. You can see how much thread is left which is a decent amount. Second picture is it threaded in backwards all the way to the gasket by hand.
fist pic is the correct way, I suspect a small burr...
I would say your assumption is correct on how the pipe was thearded and the threads are not deep enough at the beginning which is why you get just an 1/8 of a turn when mouting the element in the correct direction. You could verify with a thread guage but as Smaug suggested return it and he will gladly replace it.
