Stainless Element Trial

Hi, we get sent a few samples now and then from prospective suppliers and most are given away to our customers.

I have just received some flash looking new stainless elements in larger wattages from China and these will go the way of other samples too.

The longer one in the picture is a 240 volt by 5500 watt (so 23 amps or so) element and the shorter one is a single phase 415 by 6000 watt job (14.5 amps). I'm willing to send these out to the first person who puts their hand up at no charge but the freight cost on a couple of conditions.

  1. that you can use it immediately without modification to your power supply or vessel and that you intend to use it long term to asses longevity.

  2. that you are willing to give detailed reports for us distributors and other members here of the efficiency, quality etc to help us make decisions on stocking models and help others in choosing them.

I'd prefer to ship in Australia, but if someone from elsewhere wants to cover the shipping cost then not a problem.

I did have some concerns about the plastic block when i saw photos of them, but it's rated to a very high temperature and seems well constructed once you have it in your hand.
The screw connections are also handy.

  • I answered your pm too mate, you will be first on the list for OS for the 5500 watt one if no-one from my territory puts their hand up in the next day or two.

  • The 10,000 miles would be a deal breaker for me.

  • You could come and pick the other one up?

  • Hopping on a plane now. Hold it for me. Plane lands on Saturday.

  • The elements plus all the pork food porn you're posting sends Lisa a Dan good excuse to hop on a plane;)

  • They would both be too large for my Milk can and I don't have the Amperage to run them atm otherwise I would be keen.

Also I am only getting my setup going monthly atm so my data would be of no use :p

  • There is a place in the states that has similar elements, the also carry a 6000 watt SS element

5500 watt element back up for grabs. Rossco got his ambition mixed up with his capabilities. :))

    Yep sorry.
Out of interest, is the amp figure incorrect?
Thinking it is past my scale at 6kw anyway.

  • Amps are correct for that one but it's 415 volt.

  • Ok I see. Cheers for the explanation.

  • did these go anywhere? I see the other supplier has lowered their prices, would rather buy from SD.

  • Keep us updated on the testing. Our local home depot has elements set aside (running inventory) just for us. I don't like how the associates know me by name. :(

  • wow, I am on my original elements!

Edit - I did blow a old used straight one that scavenged from a water heater that I had in the drain tube of the boiler to heat cleaning solution... the PBW was not mixed and it caked on and the element blew..

my little guy is on the first element still...

    No solids though.

  • as fine as we grind our corn we end up blowing a few due to our mash tun. we are going to steam shortly. Btw the Florida liquor board website is archaic.

  • Go steam and don't look back

  • No one took me up on the free elements they are still sitting here. I get regular emails from the Chinese suppliers asking if i want to do business but as of now i'm still importing my elements from New Zealand.
I have had very problems with them, one customer has blown a couple and i had one customer that had some sort of corrosion issue that we never got to the bottom of after an acid/base/rinse CIP cycle, but other than that there are thousands of them in water heaters and hundreds and hundreds in stills across the country here still going strong.

If I had the capacity for these higher watts I would trial them for you.

Dang, that is one heck of a rub. Those are gorgeous parts... Did you hear back from the tester yet?

If you need a reliable tester for parts then sign me up. I keep 50 gallons ready to run at any given time, and prompt feedback would be the least I could do in return.

If these pass testing and become available then I will buy at least three to replace my old rusty Camco # 02962 elements.

Sorry for the delay in my feedback with the element you gave me @Smaug. Some problems with my welder getting things done. Hard to rush free welding. :-) First off mine was not 240v by 5500w. It is marked 300v by 5500w and measured around 17.3 ohms. So at 240v you are at about 3300w. The other thing is the screws are very small compared to my other elements. I had to use some washers on the wire lugs. I have made 6 runs so far on my new build and it seems to work pretty good. Will bring 5gal up to temp in around 20 min. on full then back it down to 30-35% power for the rest of the run. No signs of corrosion yet. If anything changes I'll let you know. Thanks again @Smaug and sorry for the delay.
