  • It was @Law_Of_Ohms that coined Crystal Dragon.
@punkin coined the carbon filter as Philter (homage to a member that worked out all the parts) and the PotShot simple pot still.
Dash was mine by accident. It was prototype-1, then -2, -3 etc and each time the word dash was used it started to feel natural.
Element guard was mine too. But that was dead easy, right?
ProCap was a group effort and it was agonizing trying to keep it simple but 'strong'.
Sight Tower was mine but only because its normally called a sight glass which is too confusing to us distillers.
Filter disk, don't know who named it, its pretty obvious so no-one gets credit.
DragonFire to replace the word "alcoholometer" was all Punkin. Stroke of brilliance that because removing the word alcohol set so many minds at ease for international shipment.

I'm sure there are others but they don't come to mind at the moment and I hope I'm not slighting anyone that has bragging rights to naming products.

Just saying that if your suggestion is the one that names the baby dragon then you get a kind of status that goes beyond just owning the first one ever produced, which is kinda cool. Its a bit of ^:)^ from your peers.
OK, the bragging rights may not be as useful as owning a baby dragon but that and $2 will get you a cup of coffee. And that ain't bad.

    Dragonette? Or Crystal Dragonette?

  • CCD (aka Crystal Countertop Dragon) sort a like CCR CPR ADD AA I think we know all those

  • well I could add the Austrian slang word "Dracherl" (nick for "little Dragon") but I guess, noone would know, how to say it right.

StillDragon Europe - Your StillDragon® Distributor for Europe & the surrounding area

  • Baby Dragon Pro has a funny anagram for the pictures "BABY DRAG PORNO" :))

  • Some say a woman's best friend is a diamond. Diamonds are forever etc...

"Diamond Dragon" or double "D"... DD @-)

  • CD1Pro as has been mentioned previously.

Perhaps it is time to rename the entire Crystal Dragon range (how many are there now that are actually going to be stocked?) to remove the sizes from the description. CD1, CD2 etc with the "Pro" to distinguish the cap style.

  • What about 2" CD ONE or 2" crystal dragon

  • Rename crystal dragon and call it an ice dragon. Call the little one crystal dragon. This will no doubt upset everyone in some way. Except of course for LoO. He then would get credit for naming the crystal dragon and then feel bad and send it to me because it was my idea to switch names. But it is logical. Ice is big. crystal is small.

  • More geeky cryptic acronyms.

    CD-Micro or CD-MicroPro CD5 or CD5P CD12 or CD12P

  • I think CD1Pro for the single cap, then up from that use the inch designation. CD4 Pro(maybe), CD5 Pro, CD8 Pro, and the CD12 SuperPro ;-)

  • CD2Pro1 = 2" 1 cap
    CD4Pro3 = 4" 3 caps (maybe) CD4Pro4..(maybe)
    CD5Pro4 = 5" 4 caps
CD8Pro"X" = 8" "X" number of caps and so on...

  • As much as I would like to win the contest I have to admit the cd1,cd4...cd12 makes sense. Except the pro thing is kind of funny. A "pro" cap in a cd1 which one might say is an amateur/hobby rig. I get it comes from the pro cap. Just seems a bit off on the name. Although it is catchy.

  • "CD SQUIRT" cause it don't piss a full stream...

  • Power Tower. or Tower of Power. I will make fuel for my mini bike, lol.

  • "CD Dream" cause it's the rig mama always dreamed about...

  • "CD Alpha" cause when you reach the biggest size your gonna make you have the name "Omegan" reserved for the last dragon... from a prior contest...

That's OK fnulnu, the whole issue of "Pro" or not really depends on whether the item is going to be STOCKED with 2 different cap/plate options.

If it is only going to be offered as a stock item with 1 variant, then it does not matter what size cap is fitted on that particular column. You can still name them CD1, CD4, CD12 it does not matter if the 4" has standard caps and the 12" has ProCaps.

I would be inclined to stock just 1 variant in each size, and keep the other bits as optional extras. If someone wishes to upgrade, then it is up to them to change the name that they use themselves. ;)

Other than the special case that we are discussing, I would market 5" and below with standard caps and 6" and above with ProCaps. All other plate/cap variations are optional.

  • SD Uno! or CD Uno!

  • You have to keep in mind the model designations that are already taken guys.

The Dash 1 is a unit in any size that has 4 plates. The Dash 2 has six plates. This has been the case since we first released our very first complete unit, the 4" Dash 1.

I've also used the word Pro to describe an optioned up unit recently with the 5" Dashes. This is the model that is upgraded with 3" condensor and extension to move the collection point away from the pot.

    http://www.stilldragon.com.au/5-dash-2-pro-model-six-plate-unit-complete/

That's only a new phrase i've coined for those models, so i'd be happy to change it out for a different word to save confusion, but it's well and truly too late for Dash 1 and 2. :ar!

IMO I guess it depends on your market. Who you will market to and if you want that marketing to hold current product formating or treat it different. Even if you dont name it after your other products you have stilldragon on there anyway which will lead them to your other gear/sites.

What seems like the most popular around me, turbo 500 sounds like it will get the job done. So many powerful images come from a name like that even if it is a little corny. Even the shortened t500 brings to mind terminator. Its a really clever name. A cd as much as it matches the other names is a small rotating disk. Vs a baddass robot from future or fast car it kinda looses in the name department as an image of performance.

Mama in her apartment probably doesnt care about pro meaning procap vs normal. She probably didnt even know what a bubblecap was till she saw this shiny clear thing of beauty on the web. Avg joe cares about knowing something is versatile, best bang for buck, fits their requirements ie size for apartment, future proof which comes into bang for buck. Im throwing my cash down and looking for the best possible solution . This is outside the value of impulse buy for most people.

When people first join the main distilling forums and ask which still do I need they are told to read read read and make up own mind based off what you want. As a noob to the scene I was confused and versatility was what I wanted as I want to experiment with lots of types of spirits or make sure future proof as my tastes change. Here we have that. The perfect small still with big output. Can run hybrid section. Sounds like gin section in the works etc

Can start with basic unit feel confident in knowing you have an upgrade path(or change of type of spirits) not just in its own range but in the larger products offered by your company. It also offers a versatility in skill as its forgiving but a t500 is run by the numbers and has really specific instructions. While things can be kept very simple on a plated still and has benefit of making cuts easier there is a lot you can play with.

This is what your competition isnt offering and its your greatest strength. A t500 doesnt perform as well and while you can get a pot still head its not very good or fast. Versatility is highly lacking.

With that all in mind having pro in there works as it has nothing to do with the caps as much as the image it produces. Professional means your getting what the pros use. You feel like your getting best money can buy. A pro is someone who is proficient or efficient at their job. They do it constantly and are thus trained to do it well from experience.

Can always throw a line in your description reiterating that the caps are actually used in pro stills to firm up the idea. Even if they dont know who the distiller is a quote from one of your commercial customers on the caps wouldnt hurt either.

I would stick away from numbers that dont describe the system or are not 1 for best. 2 3 etc sound worse than 1 unless descriptive but as mentioned earlier not so much in this case due to all sizings.

The hardcore research or go from current experience. Im not sure avg joe does and giving a little helping hand to push them towards your product seems like a good idea to me. No matter what the name is it is still a stilldragon. That will always be what ties it into the rest of the range rather than worrying about renaming everything.

  • Very good thoughtful post mate.

Crystal fragment, crystal fragment pro or crystal fragmentor as it sounds less small. Suggests both miniature and part of crystal range as well as fractions off alcohol layers.

  • As this new offering is a glass column the name should reference glass. I therefore suggest the new column be called either of the following as they are both tall types of cocktail glasses:

    Highball Hurricane

Why Highball? - There are many drinks that are referred to as being highballs - these have spirit bases of vodka, rum, gin, whiskey & bourbon - all products that can be made in the new glass column. - The name Highball also infers a top quality product - setting it apart from lowball copies ;-)

Why Hurricane? - The name Hurricane reflects the power of a tropical storm - Wikipedia defines a Hurricane as "A tropical cyclone is a rapidly rotating storm system characterized by a low-pressure center, strong winds, and a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms that produce heavy rain." Wikipedia goes on to describe them as forming "over large bodies of relatively warm water. They derive their energy from the evaporation of water from the ocean surface, which ultimately re-condenses into clouds and rain when moist air rises and cools to saturation." That sounds very similar to what occurs inside a plated column - except in this case you get to see it too! - Don't forget a Hurricane is also a type of light - I can hear the slogan now "Want to see the light? Forget Jesus - Buy a SD Hurricane." lol

Punkin has my address - just get him to ship it to me now. grin

  • You could off course just call this 2.5" one the Crystal Dragon, and market it as the default item.

From then on you could include the sizes CD4", CD5" etc in the other available models.

  • its 2" in connectors.

  • Bling (@LawofOhms' idea for the baby dragon's name).
