Packing above Dephlegmator?

edited November 2013 in Usage

So I'm looking at my current system where right now my ceiling isn't high enough to allow any more plates and I start wondering whether putting any packing into the 8" to 3" reducer above the dephlegmator makes any sense. I'm torn as to whether its even worth trying.

Thoughts?

  • Packing requires reflux to induce separation. There will bit a bit of passive reflux close to the walls but it might end up adding more complexity to your system for not that much benefit.
