As an experiment I grabbed a few sugar cane billets from a cane bin not far from my house and placed them in a fermenter that I had a molasses wash prepared and left it go for a few weeks. My Starting gravity was 1.080 and finished at 1.030. There was a fair amount of yeast trubb on the bottom which I placed in a lot larger fermenter of molasses wash and it's going off its head. Has anyone tried this and do you think it's a worthwhile experiment. I suppose I won't know until I distil it and see what it smells and tastes like. It smells nice while it's fermenting. Just wondering.
