It is so easy to happen. With us twice so far. In my new still I have minum level detection interlocked with heating control. Hopefully it will be a thing of the past.
knock on wood... I have not had a camco burn up in 10 years, only the crappy copper ones, and I have semi-dry fired them, and clean them by heating to a faint glow at 50% power for 2-3 minutes... what was being heated? The crust looks like you were mashing Gypsum!
