Well, that depends on a few things; Thickness of the plastic and competency of the radiographer. I'm still a licensed radiographer although I haven't worked in the field for over 10 years. The plastic could show up as a void (less dense than surrounding tissue).
But to your point, metal ALWAYS shows up better but probably does more damage.

That's why I make my potato cannons out of schedule 80 PVC.
I'm more like I am now than I was before.
We had a good one. With the right mix it used to crack like a rifle. Fuknose where the spud went.
