Good morning all,
Please forgive what might seem like a beginners question but I'm trying to figure out what people use for fermenters. I know whether or not a person ferments on or off grain will effect their decision as will the scale of the operation or volumes of wash required.
I'm looking at getting a 200L boiler and have been considering using the rubbermade brute trash cans @~32 gallons each for fermenters if that helps, but I can't help but think that there's got to be a better way.
Are most people boiling their wash prior to fermenting as might be done with brewing beer or just throwing everything in an open top brute trashcan and letting 'er rip?
Is there a reasonably priced fermenter out there with a conical bottom for ease of wash transfer that's made of some thing that can be sanitized?
Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide, and sorry again for what might seem to be a really basic question

Nice is polished stainless steel. Those are great for the money to start out with. A brewer here uses them and makes great beer with them
Why cant we get that sort of thing in Oz?
I'm sure I've seen them somewhere.
'People In Plastic'?
Those plastic tanks are nice, but if you aren't local to the distributor, you might as well double, if not triple, the price to get an idea of what you'll be paying with freight costs.
UPS Freight put forklift forks through one of my similar big tanks, and then couldn't understand why I didn't take possession on delivery.
You're correct, shipping is expensive. From what I priced out it's about 75% of the cost of the tank
Depends on where you are. For me, the shipping is a reasonable $260 :-O
$290 here
If u are looking for stainless, check out bubbas barrels
Conical shape would be great if you could get your mash or wash ready ahead of putting it in. I mix my molasses, hot water, etc in my fermenting barrel and stir the shit out of it. With the conical, the molasses would clog the bottom before I could mix. Also, how do conicals work with mashing on the grain?
They suck for grain. Slope or dish bottom far superior.

Excellent thanks mate.
I also saw some cone bottoms with molded in TC fittings. Pricing was ridiculous though
+1 on the brute 32 gals great durability and they sell a caster bottom that is heavy duty
