I was thinking of a variable length tube....
Start with a 2" sight glass union, remove the glass and make a tapered teflon compression ferrule, weld a short 2" TC ferule to the butt-weld end. Now obtain a stainless tube that just fits inside of it, and you have a variable length tube, you can add as long of a regular TC pipe on as you need to house the inserted length of smaller tube...
Requires:
Thinking about this, if the inner tube was very smooth, and you had a custom silicone gasket made with a smaller ID, you could eliminate the sight glass union. take the smaller OD pipe with a smooth surface, slide a short ferrule onto the pipe, carefully slip the gasket over the pipe to the desired length, slide the tube in the regular TC tube, clam the ferrule to the pipe. (optionally tape up or sleeve and clamp the seam for an extra measure of safety if you desire)
Requires:
obviously, the 2nd idea is easier, and I give all rights to SD...

Kinda like the slip joint on the J for a sink drain?
You would do this so you can play your still like a slide-whistle? (Or maybe a trombone?)
I'm more like I am now than I was before.
Expansion joint? They exist.
Exactly... well, alcohol friendly, but yes
i assume for easy assembly and take down on a stationary setup... or a mobile setup that you just re position... almost back to the same spot every time....
