It kinda all depends on whether it's coming from someplace that measures in SI (metric) or from someplace that still remembers inch/feet/corns/rods/chains/slugs, and Borneo Thermal Units.
Hard to beat. Keep your calibrated hydrometers in a safe place, and calibrate your every day working stems against your calibration set.
Why risk breaking a $300 calibrated stem on the production floor, when you can get a perfectly suitable hydrometer for forty bucks (well, 40-60 a piece).
$39 is awesome, wish they had those deals 3 years ago... I use the $150 un-calibrated ones like I linked for shop floor (after DMA) and break out the calibrated one once a year to record that the un-calibrated one is accurate.
No actual requirement for calibration according to Dunbar, if you do things right, you will be within spec if they ever pull a bottle off the shelf....
Yes.
However at this very moment I am off sight drink a beer in @punkin's honor. And I don't have an inventory amount committed to memory. But pretty sure we have em in the house.
So we're getting an increased amount of interest in all things Continuous Distilling.
We've got an impressive turnkey system running at Stumpy's finally, and we should be able to tighten up the foot print further on future systems now that we have the the little bugs worked out.
I don't really see us veering too far away from the design that we have been working on during this time. By that I mean I'll be staying as uniform as possible for the sake scaling more easily as well as keeping the PLC programing as simplified as possible.
I'm not going to engineer a new model for every interested customer especially because what we have now is running faster (for its size) than a similar sized system produced by a very prestigious still building outfit.
I can otherwise do one off parts for you fellers no problem. You'll need to supply me with enough info and approve a drawing before I put anything into production.
I am going to put about a dozen of these cross flow type HXs into production. These are not like our regular product condensers or reflux condensers since either the shell or the internal part of the through tubes will be used to cool distillate or preheat beer. So the shell will be sanitary.

55 pounds=25 kilos makes makes perfect sense. All of the specialty grains we use at the brewery comes in 25 kilo bags.
Got a bunch of grain from South America. 50 kilo bags, talk about rough on the back.
Some of our malt comes in 25 kilo (55 pound) bags, a very common size.

I didn't realize the 55s where so common. Learn something new every day it seems.

DragonFire Meters? Clarify please? Hydrometer go around dance. Sounds like DMA 35 or similar?
Term we use for the alcometers. Ours have the scale on both sides so ya don't have to do the dizzy spin round your parrot.

Ok, Thanks. Are they by any chance TTB approved?
no, you need ones that do it in 20proof ranges to be approved... I personally like the ones that are 11-proof ranges, 79-90, 89-100, etc...
the most economical I have found is Durac high precision hydrometers from novatech-usa
Would love to pick up our copper princess Monday after Rum Fest... but have a feeling that Murphy will step in...
Hunt around, sometimes you find killer deals on the IRS stems that are indicated in the CFR.
For example, Zoro has the very-useful 75-95 IRS H Stem for $39
Order 2, and they ship free, probably no tax.

Question for @Smaug, is the 4x2 long taper reducer in the Dash pictures a real thing?
Yes.
